Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie

Peter Pan is a children’s adventure book written by J. M. Barrie and published in 1904. It tells the magical story of a boy named Peter Pan who never grows up and lives in a place called Neverland with his friends, the Lost Boys.

The story begins when Peter Pan visits the Darling children—Wendy, John, and Michael in London—and takes them on an exciting adventure to Neverland teaching them to fly with a little help from fairy dust. There, they meet fairies like Tinker Bell, pirates led by the scary Captain Hook, mermaids, some Native Americans and the Lost Boys. In Neverland, the Darling children engage in thrilling adventures with their new friends and fight against Captain Hook, who seems to be pursuing them throughout the whole story. The book is full of action, imagination, and fantasy, which makes it fun and interesting to read.

The characters are lovely and entertaining. Peter Pan is brave but sometimes selfish as many times he seems to be thinking only of himself. Tinker Bell is loyal to Peter Pan but sometimes jealous and unpredictable whereas Captain Hook is a classic villain who adds excitement and humor to the story.

One of the best things about Peter Pan is its message. Peter does not want to grow up, he stays a child forever and plays all the time. He cannot have a family or take care of the others. On the other side, Wendy and the others learn that growing up means caring for others, taking responsibilities and belonging. So, the message is to enjoy being a child, but not to be afraid to grow up.

Overall, Peter Pan is an enjoyable and imaginative book that is perfect for young readers. It teaches important lessons while taking readers on a magical adventure. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy stories and exciting adventures.

 Shrek! by William Steig

Shrek! is a funny fairytale book written by William Steig published in 1990. It is about an ogre named Shrek who looks scary but is kind inside.

In the story, Shrek goes on a journey to find his place in the world. Along the way, he meets many strange and interesting characters like a donkey, which becomes his best friend, a knight, a dragon, and finally, his love mate, Fiona, a princess who is cursed to take the form of an ogre between sunset and sunrise. The curse can only be broken by the kiss of her true love! The book is full of humor and surprises, which makes it fun to read!

The characters are interesting and entertaining. Shrek is brave, confident, and proud of who he is, whereas Fiona learns to love and accept herself as the story unfolds itself.

One important message in Shrek! is that it is okay to be different. The story teaches readers to accept themselves and others, no matter how they look. Shrek represents the power found in accepting one’s true self, while Fiona learns how to love her true ogre form by giving focus on her inner beauty.

I liked this book because it is short, funny, and easy to understand. I would recommend Shrek! to students who enjoy humorous stories and fairy tales with a twist.

So, if you want to find out if Shrek, Fiona and their friends have a happy ending, just read the book or watch the film!

                       Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

My favourite film is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by the British author Roald Dahl. The hero is a boy called Charlie Bucket. Charlie lives with his parents and four grandparents near a chocolate factory. The factory is owned by a famous man called Willie Wonka. Amazing sweets are made at the factory, but it is a mysterious place because no one has seen any workers going into the factory for a long time…
One day Willie Wonka tells people that five gold tickets are hidden in his bars of chocolate. People who find the tickets are invited to his factory. Everyone is excited! Charlie dreams about being one of the winners, but it doesn't look like he has got a chance. His family is very poor and he is only allowed one bar of chocolate a year, on his birthday. Luckily, Charlie finds some money in the street and when he buys a bar of chocolate, he finds the last golden ticket. Among the other four winners are Veruca Salt, a spoiled rich girl, Augustus Gloop, a gluttonous kid who stuffs his face with sweets,  Violet Beuragarde, a champion trophy gum chewer,  and Mike Teavee, a kid who spends more time watching TV and playing video games than anything else! However, only one of them wins in this mysterious competition!
I liked the film because it has an amazing plot, the special effects are great and the music is fantastic. Also, there are some very funny scenes with Oommpa Loompas, the workers of the factory, and the rest of the four kids who are nasty and behave badly. Finally, I think it is a fantastic film and I recommend it to the whole family!

So, have you seen the film?Did you like it and why???Which character did you like the most??Have you seen any interesting films these days??Would you suggest your   classmates to watch it?

Greek Easter!

Greek Easter Traditions
There are many traditions in Greece  around Easter and the week leading up to Easter plays a major role in these. This week is known as Holy Week or ‘Megali Evdomada’.
Throughout Holy Week people go to church at least once a day. Traditionally people fast and they do not eat  meat, oil or dairy products until midnight on Easter Saturday night, after the symbolic Ressurection (Anastasis)
Holy Monday – Megali Deftera
The first day of Holy Week people go to church and kiss the icon of Christ.
Holy Tuesday – Megali Triti
On this day women bake Easter biscuits “koulourakia’ with oil and eggs, to be eaten after the fast is over on  Easter Sunday.
Holy Wednesday – Megali Tetarti
People go to church to be blessed with oil. All household chores must be finished today.
Holy Thursday – Megali Pempti
People go to church early in the morning and bow before Christ on the Cross. The women dye eggs red to symbolise the blood of Christ, and bake Easter bread – Tsoureki. These will be placed on the Easter table to be eaten after Saturday.
Holy Friday – Megali Paraskevi
This is the most sacred day of Holy Week and it is a day of mourning and grief. The church bells ring the  all morning. Girls decorate the Epitafio – the funeral bier and a service is held for Christ’s funeral. Today women rest and men are forbidden to play cards. In the evening, the Epitafio is paraded through the village or town streets silently.
Holy Saturday – Megali Savvato
People go to church in the morning which is filled with flowers. In the villages men slaughter lambs for Easter Sunday. The women bake cheese pies – kalitsounia. In Crete children make a figure of Judas to burn on bonfires later at the midnight celebration.

The Midnight Easter Service & The Resurrection – Saturday Night

The Anastasi, the Resurrection, takes place at midnight. In the whole of Greece, people go to church at midnight for the lighting of the Holy Flame. The Priest passes the Holy Flame throughout the crowd and all light a candle with cries of Christos Anesti!- Christ is Risen. Fireworks are then thrown in the sky in celebration. The people take their lit candles home and make the sign of a cross with the black from the candle flame in the doorway of their homes before entering. Now the fast stops and people can eat the Mageiritsa – a meat soup made with offal, and red eggs and kalitsounia.
Easter Sunday – Kyriaki tou Paska
Families and friends meet up for the Easter Day roasting of lamb outside on a spit and a big celebration party with food, wine, music and dancing all day long.
Special rituals or traditions are followed during Easter time in other countries as well, such as Mexico or Norway, and others.Choose a country of your preference and write an article about how Easter is being celebrated there.  Don't forget to answer the following questions:

-How many weeks do people have vacay?

-How often do people go to the church?

-What special food do people eat on Holy week?

-What special traditions or games are there about eggs in these coutries?

Post your articles in the comment section. You can add any photos or videos you wish. You are also encouraged to comment on your peers' articles an express your preferences about where you would like to spend your Easter holidays after all.
